This week we will get back to our weekly debate in Cajsa (Mannerheimintie 5 B, 4th floor) on Tuesday 18:30. The motion will be announced 15 minutes before the debate and after the debate, we’ll go to the bar downstairs to continue the conversation.

Capitalism?! Debating society gets together with AaltoEs, Tuesday 8th of May 18.30

The University of Helsinki Debating Society is happy to invite you to a public debate organized in cooperation with Aalto Entrepreneurship Society. The debate is set around the themes of the controversial and polemical book ‘The Morality of Capitalism’ (Edit. Tom G Palmer).

We will have three committed debaters defending and three opposing a motion related to the core themes of the book. The exact motion will be announced in the beginning of the debate.

The debate will be organized according to applied rules of British Parliamentary Debating. First the prime minister will introduce the motion and present key arguments of the side proposition, followed by the rebuttal and comments of opposition leader and so forth. Debaters may ask questions -known as points of information – during the speeches of the other party. The debate will be in English.

The Morality of Capitalism has raised a lot of attention due to its openly defensive stand on capitalism and classic libertarian values, and we in the University of Helsinki Debating Society believe that debate is a great way to take part in the public discourse about controversial subjects.

The invitation is open, so feel free to bring along friends and acquaintances.

This Tuesday, on 17th of April we’ll continue our weekly debate on 18:30 in Cajsa (Mannerheimintie 5 B, 4th floor). The motion will be “Given the technology for a full-term pregnancy in an incubator, THB humanity should seek to abolish natural pregnancy.” And we will practice 7 minutes’ speeches. Have you already got any ideas about the motion? You can either well prepared or just drop by and join us.

After the normal debate, we will go to the bar downstairs as usual to have more discussion.
